We maintain a rotating inventory of off‑cuts and smaller hobby‑grade hardwood slabs perfect for DIY projects. Many of our pieces have great character, making them perfect for charcuterie boards, floating shelves, and home décor. 

Absolutely—our bookmatched slabs are milled in pairs to mirror grain patterns for stunning live‑edge slabs that make show‑stopping dining tables and conference tops. These are available in black walnut lumber, ash lumber, and more. We can also create massive one-piece slabs for large projects up to 60 inches wide and 20 feet long.

Yes! If we don’t have what you are looking for in stock, you can bring your logs to our central Iowa sawmill, and we’ll mill them into dimensional lumber, hardwood slabs, or rough sawn hardwood based on your project needs. We can also offer slab flattening and custom finishing.

We stock premium kiln‑dried wood slabs with natural voids ideal for epoxy river tables and resin art. We have a large supply of walnut and white oak slabs, with occasional quantities of other native Iowa hardwood species.  

We use a variety of equipment, ranging from a custom-engineered bandsaw mill to a refurbished 1920s sawmill we found nearby. All our equipment is built in-house, which helps make Twister Hill Hardwoods one of the most eco-friendly sawmills in the Midwest.  

We can help arrange shipping for large orders for our commercial clients. 

Standard turnaround for in‑stock hardwood slabs and kiln‑dried slabs is 1–2 weeks, depending on slab flattening and custom finishing requirements. For custom mills or bookmatched slabs, allow 3–4 weeks.

Yes—Twister Hill Hardwoods offers slab flattening services for our hardwood slabs. We can also sand your slab to get it ready for finishing, or take it to the next step and finish it for you. Our ability to assist at every stage of finishing and assembly is what helps set Twister Hill Hardwoods apart from the competition.  

We can slab logs up to 30″ in diameter and 16 ft long, producing hardwood slabs and dimensional hardwood for any build. Custom cuts in black walnut lumber, white oak lumber, and other species are no problem. 

Our kiln‑dried slabs are dried to 8% moisture content, ideal for indoor live edge tables and live edge furniture. This ensures stability and helps prevent warpage and cracking.
